MRT 1 is the flagship channel of Macedonian Radio Television (MRT), the country’s public service broadcaster, and the most-watched public channel in Macedonia. Unlike the commercial stations, it operates with a public-interest remit. Here’s what MRT 1 broadcasts.
News and current affairs
MRT 1’s main news program, Dnevnik, is broadcast daily in the evening (traditionally at 19:30) and is the channel’s central informative program. It is complemented by current-affairs and debate programming with a public-service focus.
Culture, education and the arts
As a public broadcaster, MRT 1 places strong emphasis on cultural, musical and educational programming, documentaries, and coverage of national events, state occasions and parliamentary sessions.
General and acquired programming
The channel also airs entertainment and acquired international series and films, giving it a broad general schedule alongside its public-service content.
For everyone, including the diaspora
MRT operates satellite and online services so that MRT 1 and its sister channels reach Macedonians abroad. The official MRT schedule is the best source for exact program times. For how to watch live, see our MRT 1 guide.
