The Western Balkans Summit on Wednesday in Trieste brought an interesting coincidence.
Within the meeting, the first meeting of Prime Minister Zoran Zaev with German Chancellor Angela Merkel took place, only forty days after the election of the new government in Macedonia.
The meeting brought positive messages and hopes for the European future of Macedonia, just as in 2006, also forty days after the election of the then new government, brought the meeting of the then Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski with Angela Merkel in Berlin. Gruevski then hoped for a quick start of accession talks with the EU, as Zoran Zaev now hopes.
What is the same and what is different for Macedonia and the region, and what else has brought the gathering in the seaside Italian city of Trieste?
